15u girls will have the option to attend Jimmy Thompson from 10:30 to 12:00 pm on Saturday Feb 4th. 

The Ryerson closure is expected to last 2 weeks.  If the pool does not reopen we will be forced to re-assess the schedule after the February long weekend. 

Further based on increased numbers of 11u comp we ask that only competitive 11u’s continue to attend the Monday at Jimmy Thompson pool.  The pool is full and this is a specific practice for 11u comp athletes in conjunction with HAMMEHEADS Triathlon club, No exceptions.

Another really great Saturday all the same timings for next week.  As a result of the snow closure we will add an additional Wednesday at the end of the session.  Based on the snow closure we are going to ask that all athletes in Swim and Play Ball register on Team Snap. Well we are definitely deep into the season with a steady flow of games coming at us.  

Congrats to our mighty 11U’S who kicked off the season with an impressive showing at Gretzky Game Day.  7 athletes played in their first games against other Clubs. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped make this event happen.

Further GOOD LUCK to all of our athletes who are off to University.  Many of our athletes will be playing University Water Polo in the OUA this season.

As explained in previous messages this year we are utilizing  a 2 phase registration process.

Team Snap is free and it is our APP based communication for Tournaments and Team News THIS IS OPEN.

RAMP Registration is the system that we use to collect fees securely and also registers our athletes with Water Polo Canada this will open on September 1st 2024.

Further we are happy to say our Google Calendar is fully updated with all known Tournaments and practices.  We will be organizing our breaks, and special events this week.

We will also be grouping our athletes onto teams on the Team Snap Platform.

2023/2024 REGISTRATION OPEN

We hope everyone has had an amazing summer and “off-season”.   We had another amazing year having our most competitive season in over a decade.  Our quality of programming was highlighted with our representation at Team Ontario this Summer with 8 athletes attending the Tournament along with Coach Patrick LEES.

We also had numerous athletes participate in Junior Olympics in both California and Texas.  

Locally Summer Water Polo is alive and well.  With another sold out summer season.

Another highlight from the year is that our Club Population has increased to include over 130 athletes.  This is up by nearly 33% from 2018.  

We went dark so to speak in July that was both to recharge some batteries but also to address our growing pool needs both in relation to Swim & Play programming and Competitive goals.  In order to meet the new demand we have worked tirelessly to acquire increased Pool allotment from the City and added new coaches to our staff.

Further after a lot of hard work, and collaboration we are pleased to announce that, the Southwest will be running its own RDC Centre out of Brantford.  We will be providing further RDC information and 17U NCL information shortly.

For the 2023/2024 Parents and athletes will observe some changes specifically in relation to fees.  The Club made the commitment coming out of the pandemic to lower fees to help keep athletes in the water.  The increase is minimal and breaks down to roughly $1.00 per practice.

Based on the limitations of RAMP we will be utilizing a 2 step Registration System.  We are asking that Parents who are going to be registering for the 2023/2024 Season register with team snap ASAP.  This will help us to be more organized for the season.  RAMP registration does not open until early September.

Step 1: Please Register Now (No fees are associated to Team Snap)

Athletes will register on Team Snap.  Team Snap will be used for Communication.  IF YOU PLAN ON PARTICIPATING WITH THE HAWPC IN 2023/2024 PLEASE REGISTER WITH TEAM SNAP NOW.

Athletes will register on RAMP late August early September (whenever Water Polo Canada opens registration).  All Club Fees and Insurance will be paid through RAMP.

RAMP will also be used as a redundant Communication Tool in relation to Pool Closures and last minute changes.  Going forward we hope to just utilize Team Snap.

This season, based on rising costs we will be increasing our fees ($16-$20.00 per month). 

Similar to other Clubs across the Country HAWPC will also be introducing a mandatory $200.00 Volunteer component for all of our COMPETITIVE athletes and families.  Families who complete the time will be reimbursed either by refund or their child’s Provincial Tournament Fees will be covered.  Though it sounds overwhelming when we break it down it is very manageable.  

***THIS FEE ONLY APPLIES TO COMPETITIVE ATHLETES***.

PARENT VOLUNTEER FEE $200.00 (broken into 2 x $100.00 sections)

$100.00 of the fee will be in relation to Providing 4 hours of Time to the Club.

Tasks like assisting with Tournaments, attending meetings, helping transport equipment, flyers, will all be considered for this time. 

The second 100.00 is in relation to signing up for tournaments on Team Snap at the deadline and simply reading emails.  This 100.00 is all or nothing.  The week leading up to a tournament is extremely stressful and time consuming for the Head Coach.   We need our rosters set and completed in advance of competitions.  If parents fail to meet the timelines given they will forfeit the $100.00

Beginning this season all High School Aged athletes will be required to provide 6 hours of Service to the club.  We need help with Bring a Friend days, Swim and Play Ball, 13U/11U tournament days and so forth.  This is a great way to give back to the club and also a great way for our athletes to enter the world of coaching and officiating.

If players do not complete this they will not be eligible to receive the subsidy (which they have been receiving) at tournaments.  

We recognize that all Players and Parents are busy but in order to compete with the best clubs in the country while keeping our fees low we need to get creative. 

Please note athletes in the High School Rec will not be eligible to participate in tournaments.

WELCOME BACK HAWPC

BEDLAM IN BRANTFORD, was no joke, what a great weekend of water polo.  Because of the overwhelming success of the tournament we will be hosting again for 2024.  

A big thank you to all of the parents and athletes who stepped up and helped.  

Huge shout out to our 13u coed team who played hard and had fun all weekend. Congrats to our first ever 13u girls team who just fell short of a medal placing 4th. 

The conclusion of  the 13U  Provincial Championship marks the end of our OPL season.   The Ontario Provincial League encompasses 11U COED, 13U COED, 13U GIRLS, 13U BOYS, 15U BOYS and 15U GIRLS.  The HAWPC was one of the few Clubs in the Province to field teams in all divisions.  On top of our strong numbers we had our best competitive season in the history of our Club at the OPL level.  This season we captured our first tournament win since 2007, we medaled a total of 6 times, and collected our first medal at a Provincial Championship in over 5 years.   

On top of our OPL success we have had our most successful season at the NCL Level with several of our athletes slated to represent our Club at the NCL 17U National Championships happening in Calgary in under two weeks. 

Further we have equaled our best ever representation on Team Ontario with 8 athletes from our Club being selected.  This is the second straight year with 8 athletes from HAWPC featured on the teams.  To give perspective prior to last year’s contingent our Club had not been represented on team Ontario since 2017. 

This is a testament to the level of Coaching our athletes are receiving from Coach Tim Carr and Coach Patrick Lees.  Coach Patrick has been selected as one of the coaches for Team Ontario. 

It is important that we take the time to thank all of our coaches Tim, Pat, Megan, Noah, Emily, Lauren, Julia, Greg, Jamie, Mat and Lenny.  All have worked hard and all could not be more proud of the athletes. 

This Tuesday and Wednesday marks the end of our Swim and Play Ball season.  Our Swim and Play Ball Program is the foundation for the success which we mention above.  Based on what we have seen, the future looks bright.  Congrats to all of our athletes and don’t be shy about showing off your hard work this summer in lakes and backyard pools.  Also many of our Swim and Play Ball athletes need to challenge themselves and move up to comp next season.  The transition is very seamless into the 11U and 13U programming 

This week marks the end of our regular competitive schedule. With Nationals less then 2 weeks away we will run a 15u and up practice Sunday from 4-6 pm despite it being a long weekend. In June we will move to a Sunday 4:00-6:00pm in Brantford and Monday’s at Ryerson 7:30-9:00 PM.  The target age group for this is 15U and up. 

On June 4th 2023 we will be running clubfest from 4-7 in Brantford.  This is a celebration of the end of the season.  The kids will play some Water Polo we will have a short wrap up meeting with the parents.  Hot dogs and refreshments in the parking lot to follow. 

This summer We will be running a modified summer Program. For Summer League we will be targeting athletes 13 and under The program will run for 7 weeks and will take place Sunday from 10:00-11:15 outdoors at lower lions pool in Ancaster. We are pleased to announce that Sarah August who is fresh off of her rookie season with the OUA Champion Universtity of Toronto Blues will be leading the charge on deck with this program.

For our older athletes we will be running our program in conjunction with the Hammerheads Triathlon team The program will be a weekly swim on Sunday at lower lions from 11:15 to 1230 pm. 

This program will cost 80.00 for the summer.

We are just finalizing our beach Water Polo times in Binbrook Stay Tuned This is shaping up to be a very busy summer.  

As the club population continues to grow we have to continue to evolve.  The following capital projects have been identified: 

3. Revamp website updating and making more cellphone friendly

4. Recruit 2 new youth coaches & solidify all coaching positions before Fall

5. Re-engage with HWDSB with Grade 3-5 Clinics and Middle School Tournament

6. Develop format and Schedule for effective Senior League.

7. Solidify Team Managers for 2023/2024 Competitve Season 

We have grown our Club to 120  (up from 87 in 2018).  Our goal for 2023/2024 is to increase our membership to over 150 athletes. This is a very exciting times for our Club, congratulations to everyone and we look forward to seeing everyone at Clubfest on the 4th:)

Final News of the Season

Congratulations to our 17U NCL athletes who qualified for Nationals this past weekend in Montreal.   This is a truly great moment for so many athletes who have worked so hard to realize this goal.  Your Club is extremely proud.  

Please note this weekend’s Practice in Brantford will be from 5:00 -8:00 PM.  We recognize the demands of Nationals and are working hard to attain more practice space please stay tuned.

Also a special shout out to our 11U COED team who will also be competing at Provincials this weekend in Etobicoke.

We had an awesome first game day on Saturday and we look forward to another fun week.  Attendance will be slightly lower on Saturday as our 11U athletes will be away at a tournament.

We hope everyone had an amazing long weekend.  We have a crazy couple of weeks coming up so hopefully everyone got some rest.

This coming weekend is 17U NCL Eastern Nationals.  All of our athletes are in medal contention.  It has been an amazing season to say the least.  Good luck to all of our athletes.

Big thanks to all of our athletes who helped with Bring a Friend Night, it was a huge success and we had over 30 new athletes in the water.

This is our first week ever of our Swim and Play Ball Spring Session.  We are excited to see all of the athletes this week.

HAWPC SCHEDULE APRIL 10 – 16TH

**REMINDER NO PRACTICE IN BRANTFORD THIS SUNDAY**

Amazing results this past weekend for our athletes who competed at the 17U NCL.  All of our teams showed amazing grit and determination. The Boys started off slow but rallied to win another Bronze Medal.  Our Developmental Girls continued to imrpove and our Comp Girls worked hard and applied the lessons learned at the Alberta open and crushed it this weekend continuing their undefeated season. 

This is the final week for the Winter Session.  It was amazing to see all the kids swimming and treading during the game last week in the deep end.  The hard work has paid off everyone should be very proud of themselves. 

Remember we have 2 bring a friend sessions coming up next week during regular Laurier Practice times.

MARCH 27TH-APRIL 1ST

We hope everyone had an amazing March Break.  The end of March Break signifies the beginning of the busiest part of our season.  We are excited for our final tune up tournaments and then the Provincial and National Championships begin.

Strangely enough our busiest season in the water corresponds with our busiest season outside of the water.  Spring is when our Pool allocation for 2023/2024 occurs and when we build our programming for the following season.  

Good luck to all of our athletes who are participating in the NCL this coming weekend in Etobicoke.  This is the final tournament leading to Eastern Nationals.  

Once again the Mighty HAWPC was well represented in the Second Canadian Water Polo Hall of Fame Class.  

A two-time Olympian, in 1976 and 1984, Paul Pottier was a prolific goal scorer on the Canadian and international scene. His 12-goal performance at the 1976 Olympics placed him among the top-4 water polo athletes in the world. Paul was a member of the HAWPC dynasty of the 1970’s, and won numerous Canadian and OUA titles while playing for McMaster.  Paul Pottier was considered one of the most dominant offensive players of his era.

Formed in 1932, the Hamilton Aquatic Club hired 1928 Olympic bronze medalist swimmer Jimmy Thompson to build its aquatic programs. During the period of 1947 to 1966, the Hamilton Aquatic Club captured nine Canadian senior and sixteen Canadian junior Water Polo titles. Their run of 10 consecutive junior titles from 1957 to 1966 has never been equalled.

Jimmy Thompson was paramount in the development of water polo in Canada. His career spanned from 1932 to 1966 and his impact on the sport was tremendous. Under Jimmy’s leadership, the Hamilton Aquatic Club’s teams dominated the Canadian men’s water polo scene during the 1940’s, 1950’s and early 1960’s, becoming the first true challenge to Montreal’s supremacy. He was the key architect of the Hamilton high school water polo league, which is recognized as the oldest, continuously running league of its kind (1932 to the present day).

This is the second to last week of our winter program.  We are always amazed at the growth and development with this group.  As we conclude our Winter Session we will continue to work on game play.

As it turns out our Spring program will be running for 5.5 weeks for a total  16.5 hrs of in water training. The program will run from from the week of April 9th, and the last practice will be May 17th.

We will definitely require assistance in relation to our bring a friend night.  We would love to see our older athletes come out and help with bring a friend night.

We will also need significant help the weekend of 13U Provincials in Brantford.  This is the first Provincial Championship that the club has hosted in nearly a decade.

HAWPC UPDATE MARCH 20TH-26TH

Another complicated weather week but we somehow managed to get through it.   

Just a reminder about our cancellation alert system.  We are well aware of the limitations in relation to email.  As a result we have several fail safes in place.  

1. Emails are sent from ramp and team snap

2. Instagram post advising of the cancellation

The Google calendar is always the last to be updated as it is only accessed from a home account. We do our best with cancellations and appreciate everyone’s patience.  

Also in the event that the weather is sketchy but practice is still a go please never feel obliged to travel.  Everyone’s comfort level on the road is different so please exercise your own discretion. 

Based on the inconsistencies over the past few weeks we will be running a regular training week during the March break.  

Congrats to all of the athletes who competed at the senior NCL event this past weekend.  It has been a very long time since this club has had senior athletes compete and it is a testament to their dedication.   

Huge shout out to our 15u Boys who shoveled themselves out and played an excellent game against Toronto on Saturday in Guelph.  The 15U boys continue to work hard and continue to get better with each game.  

SUITS ARE IN.  We will start getting them distributed ASAP.  

Normal week of practice.  All tournaments are marked on the calendar. Please mark availability for your athlete in relation to March Madness on Team Snap. 

Regular week and we are hoping for no cancellations.  The last few weeks are very game focused.  The kids have all improved immensely and the last few weeks are always very fun. 

We will run practices during the March break for Swim and Play Ball.

With the make up sessions our last sessions will be the week of March 26th.

We are currently looking for interested athletes who would like to play competitively at provincials who are in grades 3-5.  11U provincials take place from April 21st to 23rd in Etobicoke.  Our goal is to have 2  x 11U teams for this event.   

Due to popular demand we will be running a 6 week mini swim and play ball session which will run the week after Easter with the first practice being April 11th. Timings will be the same except all of the athletes will play Saturdays 9:00-10:30 AM 

Cost will be $140.00 for the 6 week program. 

Registration should be up by the end of the week.

Jimmy Thompson Practice Cancelled March 4th 2023

PRACTICE AT JIMMY THOMPSON CANCELLED

This past week was incredibly challenging with the  weather.  We are always cautious when it comes to the weather and whether or not to run practice or cancel. We make it a priority to make a decision by 4:00.    Some potential inclement weather in our future so stay tuned.

As we enter into March this becomes the busiest part of the season.  The coaches are all very happy with the continued improvement of our athletes. As we get closer and closer to Provincials it is incredibly important that the athletes are at practice. 

We will make up the time from last weeks cancellation at the end of the season.  We continue to build on our skills during week 8.  

Exciting news for the first time  we can confirm that we will be running a spring session starting the week after Easter.  Registration news to follow.  Also please stay tuned for information in relation to competitive opportunities for Swim and Play Ball athletes.

Also good luck to our 15U boys who will be taking on Toronto on Saturday in Guelph.

The 17U national team is running a skills clinic for OPL athletes on March 19th at the Etobicoke Olympium from 1:00-9:30 pm. The clinics will be led by youth national team coach Bogdan Dubrovsky.

This is a fundraiser for the team who are heading to Brazil in April.

We had an amazing family day BBQ for our comp athletes this past Sunday.  It was great to see all of the athletes interacting and having a great time together.  Big thanks to Patrick Lees for running the BBQ, Mike Douglas for bringing the snacks, and Tim Carr for bringing the drinks.
